The Shine a Light on Flatbush Project

—From June 2026 till summer 2027, the Church-Flatbush Community Alliance will be bringing creative lighting and community events to the areas near the Church Ave. B/Q subway station on E. 18th St. The direction for this project developed from community feedback, ideas, and images. This initiative is made possible thanks to the Public Realm Grant from the NYC Department of Small Business Services.

The main sections of this public art project include:

  • Community mural of photos submitted by Flatbush residents, CAMBA’s archives, and the students of Academy of Hospitality & Tourism at Erasmus
  • “Sugar cane” lighting
  • Translucent vinyl window treatments on the building facing the station’s Church Ave. entrance
  • Launch Party – the community is invited!

6/25/26 from 5:30pm – 8:00pm: Please join us at our Launch Party! If you submitted a photo or created art with us, participated in any of our community events, or you just love Flatbush, please join us outside Q Gardens on E. 18th St. between Church Ave. and Caton Ave.

    • Live music from the Afro Latineers
    • Walking tours with the artists
    • Art making, plant giveaways, and snacks from Church Ave. Eateries
    • Sugarcane lighting at 8:00pm
