The Shine a Light on Flatbush Project

From June 2026 till summer 2027, the Church-Flatbush Community Alliance will be bringing creative lighting and community events to the areas near the Church Ave. B/Q subway station on E. 18th St. The direction for this project developed from community feedback, ideas, and images. This initiative is made possible thanks to the Public Realm Grant from the NYC Department of Small Business Services.

The main sections of this public art project include:

  • Community mural of photos submitted by Flatbush residents, CAMBA’s archives, and the students of Academy of Hospitality & Tourism at Erasmus
  • “Sugar cane” lighting
  • Translucent vinyl window treatments on the building facing the station’s Church Ave. entrance

 

May 2026 Update: Photo submission period has closed and the murals and lighting are being fabricated. Upcoming dates are:

  • 6/6/26 from 10:00am – 10:00pm:Installation: Find us all day and into the evening on and near the intersection of Church Ave. and E. 18th St.
  • 6/25/26 from 5:00pm – 8:30pm: Save-the-date for our Launch Party! If you submitted a photo or created art with us, participated in any of our community events, or you just love Flatbush, please join us on E. 18th St. Off Church Ave. Details to come.
